Collection Policy for WOMEN'S AND GENDER STUDIES

General Purpose

The Women’s & Gender Studies Collection Development Policy Statement and its selection criteria are intended to articulate guidelines needed to build and maintain a relevant interdisciplinary collection of consistent quality and usefulness, to clarify responsibility for building and maintaining the collection, set parameters for the scope of the collection, and to provide rationales for selection and retention decisions. This document is used by the subject librarian assigned to this subject area as a planning and working tool to ensure consistent and balanced growth and maintenance of the library's women's and gender studies collection, and to aid in communicating these guidelines to the students, faculty, and staff of the Iowa State University community. Popular materials may also be selected to serve patron and community needs. Primary clientele of these collections are students, faculty and instructors in the Women's & Gender Studies Program and additional campus courses with women's studies, gender, and/or LGBTQ+ research and curricular emphases, students enrolled in relevant courses within US Cultures & Communities, those majoring or minoring in relevant areas, faculty research needs, and those interested in women's / gender-specific / LGBTQ+ perspectives and contributions. As patrons represent a wide variety of needs, resources not specifically related to the curricula may also be provided.
