Liaisons, Librarians, and Collection Policies

Information regarding collection development at the University Library. This includes information about subject librarians, department contacts and our policy on each subject we collect.

Library Liaisons

Liaisons are appointed by the chairs of their respective academic departments or programs to serve as the primary representatives between the colleges/departments/programs, and the Library. Their responsibilities include relaying relevant library information to their colleagues and keeping their subject librarians informed about curricular changes and items that may affect the Library's collection building priorities. The incumbent will be the first to influence and participate in the evolution of research at the university and have regular opportunities for exchanging ideas, advocating and sharing critical research and teaching needs from their college/department/program. The subject librarians in turn provide library updates to the colleges through the faculty liaisons and advocate for the development of or refinement of library services based on communicated needs. The work of the Library Liaisons directly impacts the ability of ISU to support faculty and students effectively and advance the university's strategic mission.

Collections Introduction

The Library exists to support ISU's mission to "create, share, and apply knowledge to make Iowa and the world a better place." The Library provides a wide range of information resources that support the teaching, learning, and research taking place at the university while also addressing the general information needs of Iowa residents and the public at large. The Collection Policies outline the values and strategies that influence the Library and provides our communities with the information and services they need. We apply these values and strategies to create our General Collections found online and physically located in Parks Library, the Veterinary Medicine Library, and the Library Storage Building.
