Collection Policy for AFRICAN & AFRICAN AMERICAN STUDIES

General Purpose

The African & African American Studies Collection of the ISU Library is designed to support study, instruction, and research in the interdisciplinary field of African & African American Studies at the higher education level. African & African American Studies materials are defined as those materials dealing with the experiences of African Americans and African-descent peoples living in the United States, as well as African nations and the diaspora. Collection emphases are on the social sciences and the humanities, as well as scholarly and authoritative informational works appropriate for use at undergraduate, graduate, and research levels. Popular materials may also be selected to serve patron and community needs. Primary clientele of this collection are students, faculty and instructors in the African & African American Studies Program and additional campus courses with African / African American emphases, students enrolled in relevant courses within US Cultures & Communities, those majoring or minoring in relevant areas, faculty research needs, and those interested in African / African American perspectives and contributions. As patrons represent a wide variety of needs, resources not specifically related to the curricula may also be provided.
