ISU Veterinary Medicine Student Pioneers

This guide will highlight some of the early students of color who graduated from Iowa State University's College of Veterinary Medicine and provide resources for further research into these individuals.

Filomeno Garcia Alagar (DVM 1925)

Alagar was from Vigan, Philippines.

In the Fall 1923 ISC Directory, his name is listed as Filomeno Sarcia Alagar

As a veterinary student at Iowa State, he was a member of the Veterinary Medical Society, served as the Social Manager for the Filipino Club, and was on the Board of Directors of the Cosmopolitan Club, and international student organization. (1925 Bomb yearbook)

In the Vet Med 1925 graduation composite photo, his name is listed as "Felomeno G. Alagar."

In 1925, Alumni Directory lists him as living in Vigan, Ilocas, Sur, Philippine Islands.
