ISU Veterinary Medicine Student Pioneers

This guide will highlight some of the early students of color who graduated from Iowa State University's College of Veterinary Medicine and provide resources for further research into these individuals.

Calvin Walton Waller (DVM 1935)

Calvin Walton Waller was born November 17, 1909, in Prairie View, Texas, to parents Calvin Hoffman and Annie M. (Walton) Waller. By 1940, he lived with his wife, Lena Anne, in Winnsboro, Louisiana, where he was in private practice as a veterinarian. They had two children, Calvin H. and Walton P. Waller and his wife later separated. He died September 22, 1966, in Liverpool, Pennsylvania. He was buried in Oak Park Cemetery in Houston, Texas. He was in private practice as a veterinarian for most of his adult life.
