ISU Veterinary Medicine Student Pioneers

This guide will highlight some of the early students of color who graduated from Iowa State University's College of Veterinary Medicine and provide resources for further research into these individuals.

Zenyei Yoshio Yamashiro (DVM 1935)

Honolulu Hawaii.

Yamashiro graduated with his DVM in 1935. Several years later it was reported in the Iowa State Veterinarian that he was located in Honolulu, Hawai'i.

He had a mixed animal practice in Honolulu until 1951, at which time he was in Guam where he served as deputy director of Agriculture of Guam from 1951 to 1954. 

It was reported that he had three children: Paul, Stephen, and Chris. (Iowa State Veterinarian, v.17, no. 1, 1954)
