Through readings, lecture videos, discussions, and assignments, you will learn to:

  • Apply rhetorical principles to business communication.
  • Implement principles of effective document design and the display of quantitative data.
  • Understand the influences of organizational settings in the composition of business documents.
  • Understand the conventions of your discipline and be aware of the variety of conventions across disciplines.
  • Participate in the collaborative planning and executing of a project.
  • Understand how ethical issues influence research and application in your discipline.

How to Use this Guide

This guide is designed to provide you with links to information sources from the ISU Library that may be useful as you are working on your class assignments. For example, to complete the Audience Profile assignment (Due Jan 26), you need to select a company in your field in which you have an interest. The "Identifying Companies" tab has information about how to 1) identify a company of interest to you, and 2) gather information about the company that will help you fil out the required worksheet.
