Learn how to write a data management and sharing plan

Requirements in effect for USDA-NIFA:

  • Data should be made public within a year of publication or by the end of the funding period, including data not tied to published research.
  • Data must be published in a machine-readable format in a reputable repository that: provides a digital persistent identifier, such as DOI; allows for public search, retrieval, and analysis; and provides long-term preservation of the data asset.
  • Authors must have digital persistent identifiers (such as an ORCID) linked to their shared data.
  • A standardized metadata catalog entry must be submitted to Ag Data Commons within 12 months of publication of data in a repository.
