Data management and sharing plan guide

Learn how to write a data management and sharing plan

Department of Transportation

The DOT has not yet released a new plan. The following rules are in effect:

  • All authors must have an ORCID and attach it to shared datasets.
  • Data should be shared in a machine-readable format whenever possible.
  • Data must be accompanied by a license that encourages both access and reuse such as Creative Commons CC-BY Attribution and similar licenses.
  • Data should be deposited in a DOT vetted data repository.
  • Shared data must be reported to DOT by email (see How to Comply).

Iowa Department of Transportation

Iowa DOT requirements stack with the federal requirements and are largely the same though the format of the data management and sharing plan is different.

  • PIs should ensure their data preservation plans extend to ten (10) years from the end of the contract period.
