Any ISU student who has not yet taken the test-out or previously taken the course may take the Library 160 Test-Out Exam. It is strongly recommended that students considering the test-out have significant experience / strong preparation working with a variety of academic research tools and information sources, as well as understanding of scholarly information retrieval and evaluation, and the scholarly research process.
Students may be enrolled in Library 160 when they take the exam. If the student is enrolled in Lib 160 and passes the exam, the student is responsible for dropping the course – it will not be dropped automatically. If you do not pass, you need to stay registered in the course and proceed with the coursework to earn a passing grade.
A score of 40 out of 50 points is needed to pass the Test-Out exam. One hour will be allowed to take the exam. Exam items will cover course content focused on information access, retrieval, and evaluation. Students need to show their University ID (or driver’s license) to be admitted to the exam. Use of iPads, cell phones, laptops, and other devices is not allowed in the Testing Center. All devices must be turned off and stowed away before entering the Testing Center.
Grades for the exam will be available immediately. If you pass, you receive 1T credit for Library 160. If you do not pass, you will need to take Library 160.
The best method for exam preparation is to review the online Course Readings. All students signed up for the Test-Out exam will be added to a Test-Out section of the course in Canvas, and will have access to these online readings. When you go to the Testing Center, you will need to login to the Test-Out section in Canvas and the proctors will assist you further.
