Resources and Services for Iowa Indigenous Peoples

A guide prepared by Iowa State University librarians for tribal members with ties to ISU land

Interlibrary Loan Services

Iowa State University Interlibrary Loan partners with libraries and organizations across the globe to provide access to our materials. Interlibrary loan (also called ILL) allows you to obtain items that your local library or tribal organization may not have. When a request is placed, we will send your local library or tribal organization the item(s) you have requested, and they will in turn lend them to you. With a collection of nearly 2 million physical items and subscriptions to nearly 250,000 electronic journals, we are well-equipped to fulfill requests for nearly any subject.

For your convenience, you can view and print this page as a PDF:

How to place an Interlibrary Loan (ILL) request

  1. Check our online catalog to see if we have the item(s) you’d like to borrow. Start your search using the box under the Quick Search tab.

For instructions on how to search, check out these interactive tutorials:

  1. Once you’ve located the item(s) you’d like to borrow, check that the status of the item is available (refer to above image as example).
  2. Take the highlighted information [title, author, and publishing date] to your local library or tribal organization.
  3. Ask your local library or tribal organization to contact Iowa State University Library Interlibrary Loan at (515) 294-2345 or lendill@iastate.edu; be sure to specify your tribal affiliation. We will direct the library/tribal organization how to submit a request.

Please note that our ILL department can only fulfill requests made by other libraries or tribal organizations; we cannot lend our items directly to individuals.
