New Faculty and TAs: Getting Started at ISU Libraries

Learn about Library resources & services relevant to you!

Borrowing Basics

Faculty and graduate students can check out materials in the General Collection for a full academic year. Regardless of the check OUT date, materials will be due at the end of the next Spring semester (always due in May).

The maximum number of items (regardless of whether it is a book/journal/DVD, etc.) that faculty & graduate students can have checked out = 500

Request Delivery

There are many options for getting materials - and ALL are free services (with a few exceptions):

  • Request items from our shelf - - for items that are not checked out, our staff will pull the item from the shelf and put it on hold for you at the Main Desk - - it will be held a maximum of 10 days. Library materials can be delivered to/from the Library Storage Building, Veterinary Medicine Library and Parks Library for pick up. If the item is currently checked out, you will have the option to recall the item from whoever has it checked out - OR - place an Interlibrary Loan request for it directly from the Quick Search record.
  • What if we don't own what you want? - - we'll find what you need at another library and either have it scanned electronically for you, or have it brought to ISU for you!! [If the only source is outside the U.S., there may be a charge for it - - we'll alert you to any possible fees and get your permission before proceeding with the request in those cases.]
  • What if we own it in hard copy, but you want an electronic version of it? Library staff can scan articles/chapters from print materials in our collection and send to you via an email link. [Due to copyright restrictions, we cannot scan entire books.]
