Extension Staff: How-to Use the ISU Library Remotely!

This guide is intended for use by ISU Extension staff who may need to access library resources from outside the Ames area.

Regardless of your location, Extension staff with an ISU email address have the same borrowing privileges and access to resources as any other staff at the University. This includes remote access to our collections and databases.

FYI - Campus visitors can also walk into our libraries and use our resources freely on-site, including our databases and online materials.

  • What can I do through the University Library? Check out physical books and have them shipped to your site. Read electronic books and articles online. Request books and articles we don't have available online (through Interlibrary Loan). Live Chat, email, or set up a meeting with us.
  • What databases can I use remotely? Almost all of our Articles & Databases provide off-campus access through your ISU Net-ID. If there are restrictions on access, it will be mentioned in the description below the database link.
  • What databases can I get to without logging in? Several excellent free databases are available.

If you have any questions regarding your search for information, feel free to contact the librarian shown on the right side of this page or use our Ask Us! service to email or chat with a member of our staff.
