Standards & Specifications: A How-To Guide

Learn how to search for, and locate, full text of industry standards with this how-to guide from the Iowa State University Library.

About UL standards

Underwriters Laboratories (UL) are most widely known for standards in electrical products. E.g., every light bulb, lamp, or outlet purchased in the U.S. usually has a UL symbol and says UL Listed. In point of fact, they issue a much wider range of standards - all related to product safety for consumers.

Types of UL standards

UL at ISU

The ISU Library does not have a current subscription to UL standards.

We do have some recent UL standards which have been adopted by the American National Standards Institute and these are filed in the ANSI standards cabinets (Standards Center, Room 161). All of these may be found using the Quick Search box on the ISU Library website. If you search Quick Search by title of the standard and do not find the UL standard you need - then ISU does not own it.
