Geological surveys publish a lot of material on the geology of a specific area. Many libraries received these publications for free up until the 1980's when surveys began charging libraries for the publications. Few libraries have publications from all of the U.S. state geological suveys, rather they tend to collect publications from neighboring states.
In the U.S., state surveys have changed name several times over the years. To locate a specific U.S. geological survey in Quick Search, do an author search - OR - do an author keyword search for the state name and geolog*.
