Election Day Registration

In Iowa, you may register and vote on election day. To do so, you first must go to the correct polling place for your current address on election day.

Register to Vote

To qualify to register to vote in Iowa, you must be:
  • A U.S. citizen,
  • An Iowa resident, and
  • At least 17 years old. A person may vote if they will be 18 years old on or before election day. In the case of primary elections, a person may vote if they will be 18 years old on or before the corresponding regular election.
  • If you meet these criteria - complete this online form - or fill out the print voter registration form and return it to your county auditor’s office.

New to voting?

College Student Voters - Registering to Vote

As a college student, you may choose to register to vote at your home address or at your college address. You cannot register to vote at both.
