From Algorithms to Trolls:
How Technology Brings Out the Worst in Us

January 6 is National Technology Day, so in January 2020 Parks Library exhibited books on the intersections of technology and hate, including how racism, sexism, ableism, and anti-Semitism continue to thrive in (and are often empowered by) our tech-enabled world. Other pages in this guide include introductory information, how to find books in the library, and research resources for doing academic research on this topic.

All books that were in the display can be checked out—and we encourage you to do so!

National Farmworker Awareness Week

National Farmworker Awareness Week (NFAW) is a week of action for students and community members to raise awareness about farmworker issues on our campuses and in our communities. It is an annual event, celebrated in March, and continues to be an important issue, year-round.

Get Involved & Learn More!

The ISU Library has a wealth of resources related to farmworkers, on a surprisingly diverse range of topics: healthcare, farm safety, advocates for pesticide reform, child farmworkers, family life, migrant workers from a variety of ethnic backgrounds and, of course, many related to César Chávez and the Farmworkers Movement. There are also numerous poignant stories that follow families as they struggle to get out of farm labor, including oral histories of Mexican migrant workers and their families.
