Laura Carpenter, PhD Candidate in American Studies, University of Iowa; Digital Public Historian, Hobo Archive
Laura is a PhD Candidate in American Studies at the University of Iowa. She is the Digital Public Historian of the digital archival project Hobo Archive, created in partnership with the U.S. rail-riding community. Her current work centers on the study of contemporary transient culture and its connections with the historical traditions of hoboing and tramping.
Bettina Fabos, Ph.D., Co-Director of Fortepan US; Director of Fortepan IA; Professor Emeritus in Interactive Digital Studies, the University of Northern Iowa
Bettina Fabos is the Director of the Fortepan US cooperative photo history portal and its prototype, Fortepan IA. Both projects display curated family snapshots and historical photographs from the 19th and 20th-century. Through her work with Fortepan US, Fabos has initiated the development of new archival platform tools for digital storytelling and geolocation.
Christopher Hopkins, Professor of Music, Iowa State University
Professor Hopkins researches computational creativity, electroacoustic music, and modeling historical techniques of musical composition. He also performs Renaissance and Baroque music for viols. For Iowa State, Dr. Hopkins created a minor in music technology focused on music creation, and taught topical seminars for the Honors Program and Interdisciplinary Graduate Studies.
Erin Lane, Digital Liberal Arts Coordinator, Cornell College
Erin Lane is the Digital Liberal Arts Coordinator at Cornell College where she coordinates with faculty to incorporate digital humanities into their pedagogy. Also a Ph.D. candidate in Spanish Literature & Culture from Arizona State University, Erin's research interests include digital humanities including computational text analysis and mapping and peninsular literature.
Erin Ridnour, Digital Scholarship Librarian, Iowa State University
Erin Ridnour is a digital scholarship librarian at Iowa State University Library. She partners with students, faculty, and staff on digital projects; teaches workshops and class sessions on geospatial humanities, text analysis, and digital storytelling; and facilitates a variety of programs in the Library’s collaborative digital scholarship space, The Catalyst.
Tierney Steelberg, Digital Liberal Arts Specialist, Grinnell College
Tierney Steelberg is a Digital Liberal Arts Specialist at Grinnell College’s Digital Liberal Arts Collaborative and a co-lead of the Vivero Digital Fellows Program. She has a Master’s degree in Information Science from the University of Michigan and has spent her career promoting digital scholarship at small liberal arts colleges.
Lucía Suárez, Associate Professor of Spanish; Director, Latina/o Studies Program, Iowa State University
Dr. Lucía M. Suárez is Associate Professor of Spanish and Director of the Latina/o Studies Program here at ISU. She has authored/edited four books/special issues and over two dozen articles. This summer she participated in the NEH CUNY GRADUATE CENTER Summer Institute for Open Education Publishing Institute, which ignited the project she is leading in her class Latina/o/x Life Stories of which she will be speaking.
Lindsay Wede, Ames High School Art Department Liaison
Lindsay Wede teaches art classes at Ames High School. Prior to coming to Ames, she taught in Burnside and Perry. Lindsay is the Art Department Liaison and sponsors AHS Art Club and National Art Honor Society. In addition, Lindsay is co-coordinator for Iowa All State Art. She also runs Pinz Prints.
