Hello, graduate students! This guide is created to help you promote yourself and your academic background/outcomes. Beyond this guide, there are plenty of additional tools and steps you can implement to take advantage of the web as a self-promotion resource.
If you have discipline-specific questions, please don't hesitate to contact your subject librarian. Or check out this research guide for getting started with graduate research at ISU Library.
Karen Kelsky, Ph.D. and author of The Professor Is In: The Essential Guide to Turning Your Ph.D. Into a Job, offers the following advice regarding your online presence:
"During your job search, you'll very likely be Googled by somebody on a search committee. Faculty do not usually do this to try to expose unsavory information about you, but rather to get a broader sense of your profile. [...] Your online profile [should] give a richer impression of you as a candidate." p. 278
