Library resources and information for faculty, staff, and students in the Department of Economics

Welcome to the Iowa State University Library

Welcome to the Iowa State University Library!

Many people think that the only way to access library information is by coming to the library and rummaging through the stacks. Sometimes it's necessary to come to the Library to get a book, but many of the Library's materials (journal articles and databases) are available remotely.

This guide is designed to get you started using library resources. It includes information about searching the library catalog and databases for books and journal articles. There's also a section on finding company and industry information.

Whether you are a new student, faculty or staff member, I encourage you to contact me with questions about your teaching, research or class assignments. I'd be glad to meet with you via email, phone, or at my office in Parks Library.

Accessing Library Resources & Services

There are two options for using library services (such as Interlibrary Loan) or connecting to resources remotely:

  • Library services use 2 different IDs and passwords - depending on what you are trying to do. We recommend you use your NetID (prefix of your email address - e.g., and ISU email password wherever possible.
  • If the only login option you are given is to use the last 11 digits of your ISU ID (not just 9 digits) and a library password. Current library passwords expired in August 2018 and users can get a library password at:
  • You do not need to know your old library password in order to get a new one. New library passwords are automatically generated and will be sent to your registered ISU email account.

Logins are required to use library services such as "My Library Card" or Interlibrary Loan. You also need to use a login if you are connecting from off-campus to library databases.
