ASME publishes over 2,000 conference papers per year.

ASME Papers – if published as a technical paper, they are not published as part of a conference proceeding.

IMECE (International Mechanical Engineering Congress and Exposition) – ASME sponsors this conference, but does not publish a conference proceedings.  Some papers presented at IMECE are published by the individual ASME technical divisions as conference proceedings.

Proceedings of the ASME... series – conference papers not published as a technical paper are published in a conference proceeding in this series.

Some technical papers and some proceedings are also later published in ASME journals.  Index to Place of Publication of ASME Papers 1950-1977 and also Index to Place of Publication of ASME Papers 1978-1988 are two print indexes that will allow researchers to check and see where specific ASME papers may have been reprinted. You can also search ASME papers (for 2002-present) from within the ASME Digital Store at their conferences page.

Looking for a year not covered by any of the above options?  I suggest you try searching by author/title in a database of published articles such as Compendex or Google Scholar.  Or, look for later publications by the same author - they often cite their own earlier publications in the list of references.
