Books and Ebooks

All of the library's books and ebooks can be found using Quick Search on the library homepage. Hopefully you remember some Quick Search basics from when you took Lib 160. If not, or if you'd like a refresher or some help finding something specific, contact your librarian. I'm happy to do one-on-one and group consultations!

Requesting Library Materials

If you just need a chapter of a book

For materials in the ISU Library collections in hard copy/print, or that are not in the ISU Library collections at all:

• Try Document Delivery!
• Click Request Interlibrary Loan/Document Delivery
• Sign in with your ISU Net ID and password
  • You may be prompted to do some additional setup if this is your first time using ILL/DD
• Choose New Request -> Book Chapter
• Fill in the form with citation information for the book chapter
• Submit Request
• You'll get an email when your PDF is ready

Note: you get 30 document deliveries per year free of charge, so use them wisely!

If the item is available

If you've identified an item of interest in Quick Search and it's listed as Available:

• Click Sign in to see more features
• Sign in with your ISU Net ID and password
• Look for REQUEST OPTIONS
• Click Request
• Choose pickup location (Parks, Design, or Vet Med)
• Pick up item at your convenience
  • Request the item before noon, and it will be available after 2:30 p.m. the same day
  • Request the item after noon and it will be available the next day

You can always go into the stacks and grab the book you need and take it to the Circulation Desk to check out. This process is for when you don't want to bother with that or don't have time to try to track down what you need.

If the item is not available

If you've identified an item of interest in Quick Search and it's listed as Checked out from Parks Library:

• Click Sign in to see more features
• Sign in with your ISU Net ID and password
• Look for REQUEST OPTIONS
• Click Request
• Choose pickup location (Parks, Design, or Vet Med)
• The item will be recalled from the person who has checked it out
  • They will have 2 weeks to return the item
  • It may be returned sooner than that, but there is no guarantee
  • You will be notified when the item is available for pickup

If you need an item that is checked out sooner than 2 weeks from now, try Request from Interlibrary Loan and we'll attempt to borrow a copy from another library for you. Or, you can look up the table of contents and use Interlibrary Loan/Document Delivery to request PDF copies of the chapter(s) most relevant to you -- this often takes less than 24 hours, but you should not attempt to request an entire book chapter by chapter this way due to copyright restrictions.

There is no fee for any of the above services, including interlibrary loan.
