A literature review is the portion of a research project that focuses on first finding research articles and publications on your topic, and second, giving an overview of that research in your presentation or paper. In essence, a lit review should answer the following questions:
A good lit review gives you a solid foundation of knowledge on which to build your own contributions to the topic. The main goals of a written lit review are to demonstrate your thorough understanding of a topic so you can build on that understanding with your own ideas or interpretation.
To do a good lit review, you need to use the scholarly indexes that are most likely to lead you to authoritative research for your specific field of study or discipline.
