FAS was founded and is dedicated to working in four areas: to promote women's initiatives that work toward resolution of conflicts in Africa; to strengthen women's leadership capacity; to support policies, structures and programs that promote peace and human security in Africa; and to work at the regional, national and international levels for African women's rights.
