Collections in the humanities have always reflected Iowa State's mission of creating, sharing, and applying knowledge to better the state and the world. We maintain a large book collection in all humanities areas and collections of most of the major journals necessary for a large research library. We also support the College of Design and applied arts with a reading room in the Design Building, with a small collection of materials for art, design, and architecture. More materials in these areas are available in the main ISU Library.
Iowa State has some very strong Programs in the Social Sciences. The library's collections reflect those strengths. We collect major serials in all of the social sciences disciplines, including business and human sciences; many of these serials are available online.
There are subject librarians for each of the humanities and social sciences disciplines. They can help with both teaching and research--highlighting the resources that the ISU Library has access to, ordering materials you suggest, meeting with new faculty to orient them to the ISU Library, and coming into classes to teach students how to do research and complete assignments. Please contact your librarian, and take advantage of his/her expertise. If you have any questions, please contact me at the e-mail on the right side of this page.
