Research Methodologies Guide

A collection of resources describing research methods in the social sciences and the humanities

Sampling

Sampling is the process of selecting units (e.g., people, organizations) from a population of interest so that by studying the sample we may fairly generalize our results back to the population from which they were chosen. --Research Methods Knowledge Base

Unlike many of the other research methodologies highlighted in this guide, sampling refers to the method by which individuals are identified to take part in your study, rather than the total methods by which your study will be conducted.
