Best Practices for FigShare

FigShare is built to share and publish research

Figshare is not a place to post vacation photos or to send files to a friend. What you post on Figshare is public and tied to your professional presence. Choose wisely and share responsibility!

Sharing is forever

Once a file is made public on Figshare it cannot be "unshared." This is because everything on Figshare is assigned a Digital Object Identifier (DOI) to make it citable. For this reason make sure you are committed to sharing the files you are uploading and have the legal right to do so.

If you're a coauthor or working on a funded grant project make sure to talk to the PI and your coauthors before uploading and publishing files on Figshare.

Describe your work

Providing a detailed description of the files and research being shared will make it easier to find and reuse. Assign descriptive tags and provide a short summary of the research and files. Try to use a mix of specific and broad terms and ones that are familiar to your audience.
