Traditionally, most researcher's publications live within journals. However, you may have scholarly works published in conference proceedings, books, or other publications.
How people interact with your works, and which altmetrics will be the most commonly used, will differ among different publication types. For example, an article in an open access journal might be mentioned often in social media posts or shared by other scholars online. Alternatively, datasets and white papers might be mentioned in legislative policies or news articles. Depending on where and what you publish, your works could be shared in many places at once!
